…and everyone else who ran the Brooklyn half-marathon this weekend.  Woo-hoo!  You did it!  On to San Francisco!

And congrats to Zack and me for getting back on the horse and running two miles around the neighborhood this evening.

We’ll get there.

About this blog

Forgetting the things behind and stretching forward to the things ahead,  I am pursuing down toward the goal – Paul

Life, like blogging, is more rewarding when you know your destination.

Here are some of the things I’m pursuing now:

  • Completing the Hartford Marathon in October
  • Learning German for our trip to Vienna and Istanbul in August
  • Organizing my Time and Apartment (an ongoing struggle)
  • Learning a Bollywood dance routine
  • Looking at pretty pictures of Knitting (sadly, my actual knitting and running levels are inversely proportional)
  • Enjoying life with Zack in Brooklyn, New York.

Other interests and activities include reading, keeping my orchids alive, coming up with ideas for paintings and novels that I will someday create, listening to Wait, Wait… Don’t Tell Me on NPR, trying to avoid getting sucked into any more tv addictions now that Life on Mars and The Biggest Loser are off the air, drinking coffee,  hanging out with friends (aka “working”),  weekend activities with the congo out in Corona, Queens, (yay! no more working on Saturdays!), trying to stay in touch with friends from back home in Virginia,   and plotting trips around the world to see other friends in places like Hungary, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Florida, California, Texas, Chicago, Connecticut, North Carolina, West Virginia, and Patterson/Walkill, New York.  Also China, Australia, and Ireland- so if you live there and would like to be our friends, let us know and we will come visit you.  Eventually.

Any or all of these topics may turn up in the blog from time to time, because basically The Pursuit is just the pursuit of “the real life,”  and that could include pretty much anything.

We’ll see what turns up.

up- and down

So yesterday night I was so excited.  I’ve been running for a year or so, seriously training since March, with the idea of running the Hartford marathon in October.  Recently I’ve been doing my long runs with a couple who are training for the San Francisco marathon in July, which has been great because the husband is a great route-planner and the wife and I are like, identical pace-twins.  We did ten miles, no sweat; 11, piece of cake.

They were all signed up for the Brooklyn half-marathon today, so I signed up too, a couple of weeks ago, and I’ve been super-excited about it, telling all my friends, checking the weather forecast hourly, etc. etc.  Last night, the only thing missing from my race-day checklist was sunscreen.  Zack had to stop by his office anyway, so we decided to take a nice walk down there and get sunscreen on the way back.

And this is what happened.

In case you can’t tell, that’s a two-inch gash.  In my head.  Held together with four stitches.  How did this happen, you ask?  Well, it involved me, excitedly bounding down a short flight of stairs and cracking my skull on a nasty bit of low-hanging ceiling.    It didn’t even hurt, really, just stunned me, but then when I held my hands to my head I realized it was gushing blood and I probably wasn’t going to get to run today.  I have to say it was one of the most disappointing moments I have experienced.  Top 5.

But, as my dad says, I could have sprained my ankle and not been able to run for weeks.

Still.  Bummer.

Well, to blog, apparently.
